The Outstanding Alumni of Science Tribute 2025 Awardee for Young Thomasian Scientist

I still remember the last line of my valedictory speech back in 2016 at the UST College of Science graduation : “Tandaan nyo po ang batch na ito, Batch 2016– dahil ang batch na ito ang gagawa ng kasaysayan.”
Well, I’m not saying that we already made history; but boy, what happened in the last almost 10 years since I graduated (leading up to this award) is beyond what I thought was achievable after I left UST.
What made this particular recognition extremely special is the fact that I got to share it with my first academic tatay, Sir Thomas Dela Cruz . He has been the person who pushed me to be the best scientist that I can be, and being an awardee together with him (I for the Young Thomasian Scientist, and him for the Scientific Research) just feels like a full circle moment.
This award will not be possible without the mentorship of all my teachers and mentors, but I would like to especially thank the following for building up my character and excellence as a young scientist:
1. Mr. Arturo Sogale Jr. – my elementary science teacher who really started the scientist spark in me.
2. Mrs. Dulce Bintad – my high school biology teacher who has been my primary inspiration for pursuing Biology/ Microbiology.
3. Dr. Thomas dela Cruz- my first academic father who taught me most of the values of being not just a scientist, but an outstanding one.
4. Dr. Windell Rivera- my second academic father who has given me the wings to fly higher, and the support to go further.
5. Dr. Raul Destura – my professional mentor and role model who taught me that science is for the people and the world.
My most sincere gratitude goes to the UST College of Science, led by Dean Dr. Rey Donne S. Papa and Regent Rev. Fr. Louie Coronel, OP; and the Galing Science Alumni Association led by Mr. Casto Ignacio, for believing in me as an early career scientist who is just trying to make his way into the world. I also thank my family and friends for the support, and The Medical City for providing an environment for me to flourish in my practice.
Toast for ending this busy and productive quarter on a high note!
